In its favour:
- chemically inert — the best distillate quality achievable at home,
- adds nothing of its own to your health worries, because nothing separates out of it into the liquid or the vapour passing through.
Against it:
- low output compared with metal condensers,
- either cheap and unstable, or large — a 10 L flask with a dephlegmator stands 90–100 cm tall,
- fragile, so the whole set has to be handled with care.
